ELISABETTA FIORILLO

Regarded as one of the great Italian voices of recent decades, Elisabetta Fiorillo’s career has shone on stages such as Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Covent Garden in London, Teatro Real in Madrid, Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, the Gran Teatre del Liceu, Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich and the Salzburg Festival, receiving unanimous acclaim from both critics and audiences. She has worked with leading conductors including Riccardo Muti, Giuseppe Sinopoli, Valery Gergiev, Bertrand de Billy and Donato Renzetti.

She began her vocal studies with Virginio Profeta and perfected her technique with Ettore Campogalliani and Carlo Bergonzi at the Accademia Verdiana. After winning the “Mattia Battistini” Competition in Rieti in 1983, she made her debut as Ulrica in Un ballo in maschera, launching a distinguished career as a Verdian dramatic mezzo, singing roles such as Azucena (Il trovatore), Princess Eboli (Don Carlo), Amneris (Aida) and Mrs Quickly (Falstaff). She has also occasionally performed Preziosilla (La forza del destino), Fenena (Nabucco) and Federica (Luisa Miller), and has sung Verdi’s Requiem under the batons of Muti and Sinopoli.

Beyond the Verdian repertoire, she has appeared in titles such as Cavalleria rusticana (Santuzza), La Gioconda (Laura and Cieca), Dialogues des Carmélites (Madame de Croissy), Norma (Adalgisa), Roberto Devereux (Sara), Anna Bolena (Giovanna Seymour), L’Arlesiana (Rosa Mamai) and Adriana Lecouvreur (Princess de Bouillon).

She currently combines her artistic career with teaching, passing on to new generations the legacy of the great Italian vocal school.
