Born in Bilbao and a Fine Arts graduate from the University of the Basque Country, Naiara Beistegui began her operatic career at ABAO Bilbao Opera. After working at the Las Palmas Opera Festival, she joined the technical team of Teatro Campoamor, Oviedo, where she spent four years and eventually became Head of Costume.
She later moved to Flanders, joining the permanent team of Vlaamse Opera. For over a decade she led ambitious projects in Antwerp and Ghent, most notably her collaboration with designer Walter Van Beirendonck on Akhnaten and Het Zilveren Meer, where her sculptural skills and talent as a costume designer produced the iconic “castle suit”, a milestone in her career.
During this period she also worked as artistic supervisor in productions presented in Luxembourg, Antwerp and Ghent, and began to combine projects between Belgium and Spain. In recent years she has been part of the creative teams of productions such as Luisa Fernanda and Policías y ladrones at Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid, The Rape of Lucretia at Teatro de la Maestranza, Norma at the A Coruña Opera Festival, Carmen at the Quincena Musical de San Sebastián and Anna Bolena at Ópera de Oviedo.
She combines her stage work with personal artistic projects, including the installation Dembora, presented at Bilbao’s Gau Zuria.
