Spanish bass Manuel Fuentes (Crevillent, 1996) is among the most promising emerging voices on today’s scene. Initially trained by tenor José Sempere, he furthered his studies with Ana María Sánchez, Mariella Devia, Dolora Zajick, Sonia Ganassi, Carlos Álvarez and Ruggero Raimondi. His distinctions include First Prize, Audience Prize and Best Spanish Singer at the Alfredo Kraus International Competition (2019), and three awards at the Tenor Viñas Competition (2020), including the Plácido Domingo Prize. He has appeared at the Teatro Real (I Lombardi), Palau de les Arts (L’heure espagnole, Gianni Schicchi), Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino (Rigoletto, Aida), Ópera de Oviedo (Aida, La bohème), Deutsche Oper Berlin (Don Giovanni, Il barbiere di Siviglia), Teatro dell’Opera di Roma (La sonnambula) and Opéra national de Lorraine (I Capuleti e i Montecchi), among others. His roles include Ferrando, Sparafucile, Colline, Raimondo, Sam, Talbot, Rodolfo and Lorenzo. In zarzuela he has sung Doña Francisquita, La Revoltosa, Katiuska and La tabernera del puerto, working with conductors such as Guillermo García Calvo, Jordi Bernàcer, Corrado Rovaris, Marco Armiliato and Karel Mark Chichón.
