BARITONO

The Bilbao-born baritone José Manuel Díaz has enjoyed a career spanning more than 25 years, performing as a soloist in major Spanish and European theatres. Trained at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Bilbao and later in Italy, he has appeared at Teatro Real, Teatro de la Maestranza in Seville, Palacio Euskalduna, Teatro Villamarta, Teatro Campoamor, Baluarte, Auditorio Alfredo Kraus, Festival de Peralada, Quincena Musical de San Sebastián, and many others.

His repertoire includes opera, zarzuela, oratorio and contemporary music. Recent highlights include Andrea Chénier and Turandot at Peralada, El juez with José Carreras in Bilbao and Austria, Don Giovanni, Mendi-Mendiyan, Rigoletto, Doña Francisquita, Carmen, Madama Butterfly, Dialogues des Carmélites, Gianni Schicchi, Roméo et Juliette, Otello, La traviata, La bohème and La tabernera del puerto, at venues such as the Quincena Musical, ABAO Bilbao Opera, Teatro de la Zarzuela and Teatro Arriaga.

He has recorded the opera Maitena with the Bilbao Symphony Orchestra and the Bilbao Choral Society, and collaborated with La Fura dels Baus in Carmina Burana in Santiago de Chile and Macedonia. His upcoming projects include Amaya, Werther, Adriana Lecouvreur, Andrea Chénier and Fauré’s Requiem.
