JORGE DE LEÓN

The tenor Jorge de León was born in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, where he began his vocal studies with Isabel García Soto, later continuing in Italy with Giuseppe Valdengo and, from 2004, with Alfonso García Leoz. After winning First Prize at both the Concurso Nacional de Villa Abarán and the Concurso Internacional Julián Gayarre, his career quickly took off in Spain and abroad.

He has since performed Aida, Cavalleria rusticana, Carmen, Tosca, Turandot, Andrea Chénier, Otello, Il trovatore, Jerusalem, La vida breve and many others at La Scala, Arena di Verona, Teatro San Carlo, Teatro Regio di Torino, Vienna Staatsoper, Hamburg, Berlin, Munich, New National Theatre Tokyo, Lyric Opera of Chicago and the Metropolitan Opera.

He has worked with conductors such as Lorin Maazel and Zubin Mehta, with whom he starred in a celebrated Turandot in 2012. His distinctions include the Oscar de la Lírica (2016), the Premio Taburiente (2022), and the Premio Talía (2023) for Best Male Opera Performer.
