The tenor Gillen MunguÃa has trained at prestigious academies and opera schools such as Opera(e)Studio in Tenerife, the AsLiCo Academy of the Teatro Sociale di Como, the Scuola dell’Opera of the Teatro Comunale di Bologna, and the Workshop on Donizettian vocal style at the Donizetti Festival, organised in collaboration with the Accademia Teatro alla Scala in Milan and the Conservatory of Bergamo. He has worked with leading figures including Teresa Berganza, Mariella Devia, Luciana Serra, Roberto Aronica, Chris Merritt, Renato Bruson and Alberto Zedda, having begun his studies with Elisabetta Tandura and Simone Savina.
Among the roles he has already performed are Werther, with which he appeared at the theatres of Opera Lombardia and the Teatro Verdi in Pisa after winning the 71st AsLiCo International Singing Competition; Alfredo in La traviata; Rodolfo in La bohème; Tebaldo in I Capuleti e i Montecchi; Hoffmann in Les contes d’Hoffmann; Rafael in El Gato Montés; and Nemorino in L’elisir d’amore. He has covered Roberto Devereux at the Teatro Regio di Parma, Warney in Il Castello di Kenilworth at the Donizetti Festival, and Werther in the theatres of Modena, Ferrara and Reggio Emilia.
He has recorded the albums Lexia and Gabon Kantak with the Sony label, as well as Mirentxu by Guridi. Recent engagements include Tristan und Isolde at ABAO Bilbao Opera, Die Fledermaus at the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari, Le maschere at the Wexford Festival, La rondine in Verona, Manon in Tenerife and Don Giovanni in Cortina, in addition to several productions in Trieste. Future projects include La bohème in Granada, Amaya by Guridi at the San Sebastián Festival, and Carmen at the Gran Teatre del Liceu.
