ANNALISA STROPPA

Celebrated mezzo-soprano Annalisa Stroppa is widely regarded as one of the leading Italian voices of her generation. She graduated with highest honours in Singing from the Conservatorio “Luca Marenzio” in Brescia, and holds a degree in Literature from the University of Bergamo. She has also won numerous international singing competitions.

She made her debut in 2011 as Cherubino in Mercadante’s I due Figaro under Riccardo Muti at the Salzburg Festival, and has since appeared at leading theatres such as La Scala, Teatro Real, Liceu, Wiener Staatsoper, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Teatro Colón and Opéra Bastille. At La Scala she opened two consecutive seasons with Madama Butterfly and Andrea Chénier, both conducted by Riccardo Chailly.

She has worked with conductors including Mehta, Thielemann, Luisi, Currentzis, Domingo, Abbado and Frizza, in a vast repertoire ranging from Mozart and Rossini to Verdi, Donizetti, Massenet and Berlioz, with roles such as Carmen, Norma, Rigoletto, La forza del destino, Il barbiere di Siviglia, Les contes d’Hoffmann and Anna Bolena.

Her concert activity includes performances at the Berlin Philharmonie, Verdi’s Requiem with the Berliner Philharmoniker, and appearances at major festivals such as Ljubljana, Donizetti Opera and Bregenz. In 2020 she performed Donizetti’s Requiem in memory of the victims of Covid, in the presence of the President of the Italian Republic.

Recent and upcoming engagements include Werther, Roberto Devereux, Carmen, I Capuleti e i Montecchi, La favorite and La canzone dei ricordi, at Teatro Colón, Teatro di San Carlo, Liceu, Teatro Regio di Torino, Teatro Massimo and Politeama Garibaldi.
