Silvia Tro Santafé is regarded as one of today’s leading mezzo-sopranos and a reference in Rossini and bel canto repertoire. A regular guest at the world’s foremost opera houses — including the Vienna Staatsoper, La Scala, Teatro Real, Liceu, Opéra de Paris, La Monnaie and Semperoper Dresden — she has sung under conductors such as Teodor Currentzis, Riccardo Frizza, Roberto Abbado, Fabio Biondi and Marc Minkowski, and with stage directors including David McVicar, Christof Loy and Damiano Michieletto.
With more than thirty roles to her credit, she has excelled as Rosina, Cenerentola, Adalgisa, Giovanna Seymour, Elisabetta (Maria Stuarda), Eboli, Sara, Romeo, Charlotte, Marguerite (La damnation de Faust), Néris, and in numerous Handel operas. She has also appeared at festivals such as Salzburg, Pesaro, Peralada and Santa Fe.
In the 2024–25 season she returns to ABAO Bilbao Opera in the title role of La favorite, conducted by Riccardo Frizza with stage direction by Valentina Carrasco. Recent highlights include Elisabetta in Maria Stuarda at Teatro Real, Sara in Roberto Devereux at Les Arts, and her debut as Doña Inés in Maria Padilla in Seville. She has also given the recital Lamenti at La Monnaie and will sing Prokofiev’s Alexander Nevsky with the ADDA Simfònica.
Winner of the Best Female Singer award at the Ópera XXI Awards 2023–24, her discography includes Aureliano in Palmira, Serse and Lucrezia Borgia, alongside bel canto and Spanish song recital recordings.
