Born in Badajoz, where she began vocal studies with soprano María Coronada Herrera, Carmen Solís is a prize-winner at international competitions including Operalia, Francisco Viñas and Manuel Ausensi. Since her debut as Amelia in Un ballo in maschera (Ópera de Oviedo, 2009), she has built a solid career as a leading soprano across major theatres in Spain and Latin America. Her roles include Liù (Turandot) with the OBC in Barcelona, Nedda (Pagliacci) in Bologna, Reggio Emilia and Santiago de Chile, and acclaimed portrayals of Butterfly in Bilbao (ABAO), Seville, Chile and on tour with the Fundació Òpera de Catalunya. She has sung Pagliacci and Cavalleria rusticana in a single evening at the Teatro Cervantes in Málaga, and Tosca in venues such as Pamplona, Sabadell, Lucca and Izmir. Other highlights include the Countess (Le nozze di Figaro) at ABAO Bilbao, Fidelia and Anna at Madrid’s Teatro Monumental, and Leonora (Il trovatore) in Oviedo and Zagreb. A regular at the Teatro de la Zarzuela since 2016, she has appeared in Juan José, El gato montés, María del Pilar and La Dolores. On the concert platform she has performed Verdi’s and Mozart’s Requiems, Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, and contemporary Spanish works such as Gernika and La dama del alba, collaborating with leading Spanish orchestras and conductors including Plácido Domingo, Daniel Oren and Kazushi Ono. Her discography features Nana (Brilliant Classics), La Seduzione (IBS Classical) and a recent third album of music by Albert Alcaraz (Harmonia Mundi).
