Petras Geniušas *

Born in Vilnius into a musical family, Petras Geniušas is one of Lithuania’s most distinguished, versatile and adventurous pianists. He graduated from the Lithuanian Academy of Music under Jurgis Karnavičius and continued his studies at the Moscow Conservatoire with Vera Gornostayeva. His international career was confirmed by major prizes at competitions including the Pilar Bayona Piano Competition in Zaragoza, the Y.C.A.A. International Piano Competition in Oberlin, the A.M.S.A. World Piano Competition in Cincinnati and the Palm Beach Invitational International Piano Competition. He has toured in more than forty countries and performed at venues such as the Great Hall of the St Petersburg Philharmonia, Alice Tully Hall and Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center in New York, Tokyo Geijitsu Geikijo and the Musikverein in Vienna. His artistic activity combines the major classical, Romantic and contemporary repertoire with chamber music, theatre, jazz, ethnic music, avant-garde projects and crossover work. He has shared the stage with artists including Mstislav Rostropovich, Yehudi Menuhin, Alexander Kniazev and David Geringas. Alongside his concert career, he is a professor at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre and teaches at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. His distinctions include the Lithuanian National Award, the WIPO Creativity Award and the Order of the Grand Duke Gediminas.
