Pedro Halffter
Born in Madrid, Pedro Halffter Caro is a conductor and composer. He was artistic director of Teatro de la Maestranza in Seville from 2004 to 2018, principal guest conductor of the Nürnberger Symphoniker, chief conductor of the Bayreuth Festival Youth Orchestra, artistic director and chief conductor of the Gran Canaria Philharmonic Orchestra, and artistic director of the Royal Seville Symphony Orchestra. He has conducted at venues including the Musikverein in Vienna, Berlin Konzerthaus, Queen Elizabeth Hall in London, Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, Teatro Real Madrid, National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing, Tchaikovsky Concert Hall in Moscow, Bavarian State Opera, Grosses Festspielhaus in Salzburg, Gran Teatre del Liceu, Berliner Philharmonie and Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse. He has worked with orchestras such as the Philharmonia Orchestra, Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, Staatskapelle Berlin, Dresden Philharmonic, Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI, Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal and Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, as well as Spain’s leading symphony orchestras. His operatic repertoire includes Die schweigsame Frau, Salome, Der ferne Klang, Turandot, Norma, Rigoletto, Die Zauberflöte, Le nozze di Figaro and Der Kaiser von Atlantis. His discography includes recordings for Deutsche Grammophon, Warner Music and Warner Classics. He is a member of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Santa Isabel de Hungría in Seville.
