Francesco Ivan Ciampa

Born in Avellino, Francesco Ivan Ciampa graduated in conducting, composition and wind-band instrumentation at the Santa Cecilia Conservatoire in Rome, before furthering his studies with Carlo Maria Giulini and Bruno Aprea. He worked as assistant to Antonio Pappano and Daniel Oren, and has received several awards, including the 2010/11 National Arts Award and first absolute prize at the M.I.U.R. National Conducting Competition. He has conducted at major opera houses including the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Bavarian State Opera in Munich, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Arena di Verona, Hamburg State Opera, Teatro di San Carlo, Teatro La Fenice, Teatro Regio di Torino and the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino. He has worked with orchestras such as the Munich Philharmonic, the orchestras of La Fenice, Teatro di San Carlo, Teatro Regio di Torino, Teatro Massimo in Palermo, Opéra Bastille, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Valencia and Barcelona. His repertoire includes works by Verdi, Puccini, Donizetti, Bellini, Rossini and Bizet. At ABAO Bilbao Opera he has conducted Attila, Jerusalem and Otello.
