Emiliano Suárez

Stage director

Born in Bilbao in 1976, Emiliano Suárez Pascual is artistic director of OperaGarage and owner and artistic director of Garaje Lola, a Madrid-based space devoted to contemporary art and musical creation. Since 2016 he has worked in production and stage direction in alternative venues, exploring new formats for presenting opera and developing new audiences. A graduate in Advertising, Public Relations and Journalism, he began his professional career at Publicis and later completed his musical training by studying singing with Suso Mariátegui and attending masterclasses with Josefina Arregui, Vicente Sardinero, Ramón Vargas and Alfredo Kraus. In 2000 he joined the Communications Department of Lyric Opera of Chicago, where he worked on patronage projects and collaborated as artistic assistant on productions by Graham Vick, Mark Lamos, Christopher Alden and Richard Jones. With OperaGarage he has staged La bohème, Lucia di Lammermoor, Rigoletto and Tosca. In 2024 he opened the ABAO Bilbao Opera season with Don Pasquale. He has since directed Quien porfía mucho alcanza in Seville, Jenůfa in A Coruña and Manon Lescaut, a co-production between Ópera de Oviedo and ABAO Bilbao Opera. His forthcoming projects include Owen Wingrave, Adriana Lecouvreur, Lohengrin and Werther.
