Carles Berga

Stage design

Born in Barcelona in 1978, Carles Berga graduated in Architecture from Ramon Llull University in 2005. During his studies he worked with La Fura dels Baus and Alfons Flores, for whom he created several set designs. He made his debut at Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires in 2013 with Wagner’s tetralogy, staged by Valentina Carrasco. Since then, he has developed a wide-ranging career as a set designer for opera, film productions, museums, major events, installations and concerts. His opera credits include Luisa Miller at Palau de les Arts in Valencia, La forza del destino at Opernhaus Zürich, Fidelio at Opéra National de Bordeaux, Lucrezia Borgia at the Rome Opera, Nixon in China at Opéra Bastille in Paris, La fanciulla del West at Turin Opera, Turandot at the Gran Teatre del Liceu, Aida at the Sferisterio di Macerata, La favorite in Bergamo, Die Zauberflöte at Teatro Verdi in Trieste, The Turn of the Screw at Opéra National de Lyon, Proserpine in Rome and La bella dormente nel bosco in Strasbourg. His non-operatic work includes the opening ceremony of the America’s Cup in Barcelona, Nacho Cano’s musical Malinche, the exhibition Interior Berlanga at CaixaForum and the 2018 Goya Awards.
