Bruno de Simone

Born in Naples, Bruno de Simone is recognised as a leading figure in the bel canto repertoire and one of the great singer-actors on the international opera scene. Alongside his classical and university studies in Law, he began his vocal training with Marika Rizzo and continued his development with Sesto Bruscantini, who played a decisive role in shaping his repertoire. After success in several national and international competitions, he soon established himself as an ideal interpreter of dramma giocoso and opera buffa, with a particular affinity for Rossini —whose works have occupied a central place in his career— and Donizetti. He has appeared at theatres including Teatro alla Scala, Teatro di San Carlo, the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro, Arena di Verona, Opernhaus Zürich, Teatro La Fenice, Opéra Bastille, Gran Teatre del Liceu, Teatro Real Madrid, Vienna State Opera, Bavarian State Opera, San Francisco Opera, Washington Opera and ABAO Bilbao Opera. Throughout his career he has worked with conductors such as Claudio Abbado, Riccardo Chailly, Daniele Gatti, Jesús López Cobos, Zubin Mehta, Riccardo Muti, Daniel Oren and Alberto Zedda. His awards include the Tiberini d’Oro, Rossini d’Oro, Alfredo Catalani-Città di Lucca Prize, Cimarosa Prize and Le Muse Prize. He is also active as a teacher and is professor of Singing and Vocal Interpretation at the Accademia del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino.
