Sabas Balanzategui

Baritone Sabas Balanzategui has developed his vocal training in close connection with the Basque choral and operatic scene. His extensive choral experience includes the Mixed Choir of the Sociedad Coral de Bilbao, conducted by Enrique Azurza, as well as SUHAR and the ABAO Opera Chorus, both under the direction of Esteban Urzelai.

Alongside his choral work, he has continued his vocal studies with Marta Ubieta at the Sociedad Coral de Bilbao and Fernando La Torre at Bilbao Musika.

As a soloist, he has performed Mozart’s Requiem with the UPV/EHU Symphony Orchestra and Choir at the Bilbao Philharmonic Society, and Duruflé’s Requiem with the Sociedad Coral de Bilbao in Eindhoven. He has also appeared in several zarzuela productions, including Gigantes y Cabezudos, El Caserío and Marina with the Coro Lírico de Bilbao.

His career combines a strong choral background with a growing profile as a soloist, with a particular focus on the symphonic-choral repertoire.
