Ignacio García
Stage director and musician Ignacio García, a RESAD graduate, is a recipient of awards from the Spanish Association of Stage Directors and the Teatro Real. He has served as Director of the Almagro International Classical Theatre Festival, programmer of Mexico’s Dramafest, and creator of Voces de la Lengua in La Rioja.
His work has taken him to Europe, the Americas, Asia and Africa, including the Teatro Real, Teatro de la Zarzuela, Euskalduna, Teatro Colón in Bogotá, the Alexandrinsky Theatre in St Petersburg and Peru’s Gran Teatro Nacional. In opera he has directed Otello, La forza del destino, Aida, Rigoletto, Macbeth, Il trovatore, Turandot, Tosca, Lucia di Lammermoor, La sonnambula, Werther, Faust, Susannah, Hamlet, Cavalleria rusticana, Pagliacci and more, alongside baroque and contemporary works.
A specialist in Spanish repertoire, he has staged pieces by Barbieri, Gaztambide, Usandizaga, Sorozábal, Soutullo and Vert, Guerrero, Chueca and Alonso, as well as numerous premieres of new opera. Committed to education, he has developed youth opera projects in over ten countries and collaborates with international theatres and training programmes, also giving masterclasses and lectures on the relationship between word and music.
