Guillermo Amaya
Guillermo Amaya has developed a wide-ranging career as a stage director, writer and artistic manager in theatre, musical theatre, opera and operetta. He lived in Germany for fourteen years, working as Oberspielleiter —head of stage direction and resident stage director for Musiktheater— at Theater für Niedersachsen in Hildesheim-Hanover. His repertoire as a director ranges from Baroque opera, with titles such as L’Orfeo, Dido and Aeneas, Venus and Adonis and Adonis, to Mozart, Donizetti, Auber, Smetana, Bernstein, Offenbach, Prokofiev, Wagner and Piazzolla, as well as musicals and opera for family audiences. He has worked in theatres and festivals in Spain, Germany, Austria and Peru, including Landestheater Bregenz, Theater Osnabrück, Theater Heidelberg, Teatro Real Madrid, Teatro de la Maestranza, Teatro Campoamor, Teatro Victoria Eugenia, Teatro Arriaga, the San Sebastián Music Fortnight, the Seville Opera Biennial and the Gran Teatro Nacional in Lima. His recent productions include Lohengrin for Ópera de Oviedo, Così fan tutte in Stuttgart, Egia and Nizugu at the San Sebastián Music Fortnight, Il califfo di Bagdad in Seville, María de Buenos Aires in Heidelberg and Don Pasquale for the Diputación de Córdoba. As a playwright, he has published Cómo se viene la muerte, a volume of 99 short plays.
