Egils Siliņš

Latvian bass-baritone Egils Siliņš has established himself as one of the most sought-after singers of his generation. A graduate of the Latvian Academy of Music, he made his debut at the Latvian National Opera and, after winning ten international competitions, went on to build an extensive career at the world’s leading opera houses. He has also served as General Director of the Latvian National Opera and Ballet. His repertoire, comprising more than ninety roles, includes some of the great Wagnerian and dramatic parts for his voice type, among them the Dutchman, Wotan, the Wanderer, Amfortas, Klingsor, Telramund, Kurwenal, Jochanaan, Barak, Orest, Scarpia, Iago, Germont and the High Priest in Samson et Dalila. He has appeared at houses including the Vienna State Opera, Teatro alla Scala, Metropolitan Opera, Royal Opera House, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Staatsoper Berlin, Semperoper Dresden, Bavarian State Opera, Teatro Real, Gran Teatre del Liceu, Zurich Opera House, Mariinsky Theatre and ABAO Bilbao Opera, where he has sung Jochanaan and the High Priest. He has worked with conductors such as Marek Janowski, Christian Thielemann, Philippe Jordan, Zubin Mehta, Riccardo Muti, Fabio Luisi, Seiji Ozawa, James Conlon, Daniele Gatti, Mariss Jansons and Andris Nelsons. His recent and forthcoming engagements include Der fliegende Holländer, Tristan und Isolde, Les contes d’Hoffmann, Lohengrin and several titles from Der Ring des Nibelungen.
