Ángeles Blancas

Ángeles Blancas, winner of the 2023 Ópera XXI Award for Best Soprano for her performance as Kostelnička in Jenůfa at Teatro de la Maestranza in Seville, is one of Spain’s leading voices in dramatic repertoire, with a particular focus on twentieth-century opera. She has worked with conductors including Antonio Pappano, Fabio Luisi, Asher Fisch and Álvaro Albiach, and with stage directors such as Graham Vick, Robert Carsen and Calixto Bieito. In 2024 she appeared in productions including Aribert Reimann’s Lear at Teatro Real, where she sang Goneril to great critical and public acclaim; Rusalka, The Fiery Angel, Medea and Shostakovich’s Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk at the Gran Teatre del Liceu; and ended the year as Giorgetta in Il tabarro at ABAO Bilbao Opera. Recent appearances include Kostelnička in Jenůfa at the Teatro Nacional de São Carlos in Lisbon, The Mother in Il prigioniero in a new production by Calixto Bieito at Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, and a concert of Wagner arias with the Málaga Symphony Orchestra. In the 2025/26 season she sings Pepita Jiménez at Teatro de la Zarzuela, makes her debut as Senta in Der fliegende Holländer in Tenerife and returns to Il prigioniero under Antonio Pappano. Forthcoming engagements include Yerma, the world premiere of José María Verdú’s Medea, and Brünnhilde in Die Walküre at ABAO Bilbao Opera.
