Andrzej Filończyk
Born in 1994, Andrzej Filończyk completed his studies at the Academy of Music in Wrocław with Bogdan Makal. He was a member of the Polish National Opera’s Young Talents Programme, under Eytan Pessen, and of the International Opera Studio in Zurich. In 2016 he took part in the Salzburg Festival Young Singers Project, returning to the festival in 2017 as Gubetta in Lucrezia Borgia. He made his operatic debut in 2015 at Teatr Wielki in Poznań as Tonio in Pagliacci, conducted by Gabriel Chmura, and returned the following year as Eugene Onegin. Winner of first prize at the International Stanisław Moniuszko Vocal Competition, he has sung Figaro in Il barbiere di Siviglia at Zurich Opera House and the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow; Silvio in Pagliacci at Teatro Regio Turin and the Royal Opera House; Marcello in La bohème at the Canadian Opera Company; and Enrico Ashton in Lucia di Lammermoor at Teatro di San Carlo. Recent engagements include Don Giovanni at the Vienna State Opera and Deutsche Oper Berlin, Don Carlo at Opéra Bastille and his Metropolitan Opera debut in The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay. He has worked with conductors including Nicola Luisotti, Daniele Gatti, Emmanuel Villaume and Pier Giorgio Morandi.
