Set Design

Born in Lecce, Antonella Conte graduated in Set Design from the Accademia di Belle Arti in Urbino. She began her theatre career in 1997 as assistant to Francesco Calcagnini on productions including Simon Boccanegra for the Opéra de Monte-Carlo, Moniuszko’s Straszny Dwór at Wexford Festival and Euripides’ Medea, directed by Luca Ronconi. Between 1999 and 2003 she worked as assistant to Denis Krief on productions presented at major Italian theatres, including A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Lucia di Lammermoor, Il barbiere di Siviglia, Aida, Carmen, The Death of Klinghoffer, Moses und Aron and Un ballo in maschera. Since 2007 she has maintained a close collaboration with Francesco Zito, designing sets for titles such as La favorite, Ernani, Simon Boccanegra, Cavalleria rusticana, La bohème, Tosca and Le Corsaire. In 2008 she began working with Mario Pontiggia on La grotta di Trofonio at Opernhaus Zürich, and from 2009 to 2013 she was collaborating set designer and videomaker for Ópera de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Since 2015 she has taught Set Design at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Palermo.
