Daniele Naldi

Lighting designer Daniele Naldi was Head of Lighting at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna from 1994 to 2023. He began his career in 1986 and made his debut as a designer in 1993 with L’Histoire du soldat directed by Roberto De Simone. Since then, he has designed lighting for productions including Macbeth, The Makropulos Case, Simon Boccanegra, Aida, I puritani, Tristan und Isolde and The Rake’s Progress, collaborating with directors such as Luca Ronconi, Pier’Alli, Ruth Berghaus and Calixto Bieito.

He has worked at theatres and festivals including Opernhaus Zürich, Teatro di San Carlo in Naples, Teatro Regio di Torino, Liceu, Teatro La Fenice, Teatro Campoamor in Oviedo, Palacio Euskalduna in Bilbao (Lohengrin), Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari, Opéra Royal de Wallonie-Liège, Festival Internacional de Santander, Wexford Festival Opera, Sydney Opera House and Teatro Lirico di Cagliari. He has also toured with Teatro Comunale di Bologna in Germany, Spain, Finland, Japan, China and Mexico.

In 2012 he won the award for Best Lighting Design for Les Misérables. Alongside his professional activity, he teaches Lighting Technology at the Scuola dell’Opera of the Teatro Comunale di Bologna and Light Design at the Accademia di Belle Arti in the same city.His recent engagements include Il trittico at Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires (May 2025) and L’italiana in Algeri at the Rossini Opera Festival (August 2025).
