{"id":3671,"date":"2026-01-12T14:54:01","date_gmt":"2026-01-12T13:54:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.abao.org\/flashmob-cuento-de-navidad\/"},"modified":"2026-03-05T17:24:12","modified_gmt":"2026-03-05T16:24:12","slug":"flashmob-cuento-de-navidad","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.abao.org\/en\/flashmob-cuento-de-navidad\/","title":{"rendered":"Christmas carol flash mob"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A group of costumed performers presented several musical excerpts in the middle of a public street.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The initiative was promoted by <strong>ABAO Bilbao Opera<\/strong>, in collaboration with <strong>Bizkaibus<\/strong>, and featured the artistic participation of <strong>\u00d3pera de C\u00e1mara de Navarra<\/strong>, which brought part of the opera <em>A Christmas Carol<\/em> into the street.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The intervention took place at <strong>2:00 p.m.<\/strong> and involved more than <strong>thirty members of the cast<\/strong>, including soloists and choir, all dressed as characters from the opera. After performing two scenes from the work, the artists closed the event with the Basque Christmas carol <strong>\u201cAtor Ator\u201d<\/strong>, joined by some of the people in attendance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier that day, the cast had taken part in the morning performance at the <strong>Teatro Arriaga<\/strong> and, between that show and the afternoon performance, they were transported by <strong>Bizkaibus<\/strong> to the location of the intervention, already in costume\u2014marking the beginning of the flash mob.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Juan Carlos Matellanes<\/strong>, President of ABAO Bilbao Opera, noted that the initiative sought to \u201cbring opera closer to the public and create an unexpected encounter with music in the urban space.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, the Provincial Councillor for Transport, Mobility and Tourism, <strong>Sonia P\u00e9rez Ezquerra<\/strong>, stated that Bizkaibus\u2019s collaboration in initiatives such as this \u201clinks public transport with cultural actions aimed at audiences of all ages.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From Bizkaibus, its director <strong>Antonio Jaraices<\/strong> explained that the event forms part of the programme <strong>\u201cBizkaibus brings you closer to opera,\u201d<\/strong> designed to encourage children and young people to use public transport and to access culture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The intervention concluded amid applause from the gathered audience, while many passers-by\u2014surprised by the sudden appearance of the cast in the street\u2014stopped to watch the scene and recorded the moment on their mobile phones.
