Iñigo Fernández
Iñigo Fernandez began his vocal training as a choral singer, performing with ensembles including the San Juan Bautista Abesbatza in Leioa, under the direction of Basilio Astulez, and the Coro de la Zarzuela de Oviedo. He is currently completing his vocal studies at Musikene, the Higher School of Music of the Basque Country, where he also graduated in Saxophone Performance in 2023.
Throughout his career, he has taken part in a number of opera and zarzuela productions. Highlights include appearing in Pagliacci at the Kursaal, performing the role of Aeneas in Henry Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas at Muxikebarri Zentroa, taking part in the zarzuela Agua, azucarillos y aguardiente at the Victoria Eugenia Theatre, and appearing in the world premiere of the opera Saturraran at the Arriaga Theatre.
He has also collaborated with the Bilbao Opera Chorus in several productions.
His extensive musical training and experience as an instrumentalist enable him to explore a wide-ranging repertoire, from the Baroque period to contemporary music.
He will shortly take the leading role in Lamiako 1979, a contemporary opera by Basque composer Jon Sáenz, at the Arriaga Theatre.
