Ana Garay

Stage and costume designer

Ana Garay is a stage and costume designer. She graduated in Fine Arts from the University of the Basque Country, specialising in Design and Sculpture, and completed her training in Stage Design at the Escola Superior d’Art Dramàtic in Barcelona. She received scholarships from the Provincial Council of Bizkaia and the Basque Government, and has been recognised with awards including the Ercilla Theatre Award for Best New Artist for her stage design work, the Gran Vía Award for Best Set Design for 40 El Musical, the Jara Award for Theatre in Extremadura for Torero and the BroadwayWorld Spain Audience Award for Best Set Design for La llamada. From 1997 to 2002 she was artistic coordinator of the Fundación Teatro Lírico at Teatro Real Madrid, taking part in numerous opera productions. Over the course of her career she has worked on more than 180 projects in theatre, opera, dance, zarzuela and musical theatre, collaborating with artists such as Adolfo Marsillach, Luis García Berlanga, Mario Gas, José María Flotats, Nacho Cano, Juan Echanove, Juan Carlos Pérez de la Fuente, Helena Pimenta, Andrés Lima, José Carlos Plaza, Daniel Veronese, Robert Carsen and Paco Azorín, among others.
