Der fliegende Holländer, the fourth opera by Richard Wagner, having the central theme of redemption by love, will open in 2020, sponsored by the Fundación BBVA. With this opera, the German composer broke away from past opera standards, creating a new model of operatic composition that rejected historic topics for a new composition form: the musical drama.
Debuting as the leading couple are bass-baritone Bryn Terfel, the top flying Dutchman of his time and soprano Irene Theorin, one of the best representatives of German repertoire.
Directing this opera, which vibrates with lively and impetuous music, is conductor Pedro Halffter, a Wagnerian specialist, leading the Bilbao Orkestra Sinfonikoa.
The Theater Erfurt production, directed by Guy Montavon, unique in the country, is innovative and contextualized in a more modern universe.
